One brick, not golden

imageOn the bus last night through the delightful neighbourhood of Sparkhill, Birmingham; some hard man decided to throw a brick through the front window. I didn’t realise until everyone was getting off the bus – far too engrossed in my music. Thought I’d share some of the tracks that kept me so blissfully unaware:

Azari & III – Into the Night
The Canadian duo are back with another superb ode to the ‘80s, available to download here alongside remixes from industry behemoths Nicolas Jaar and Renaissance Man.

Wildlife! - Nocturnal World (feat. Terry Lynn)

Renowned Swiss producer Wildlife! returns with another dancehall-flavoured track, Nocturnal World, off the freshly released Buckup EP. The EP also features remixes from Night Slugs maestro L-Vis 1990, Douster, Adam Port, and the prodigious Parisian talent French Fries. The latter producing a brilliant remix of Nocturnal World, available here.

Bok Bok – Say Stupid Things
Bass music at its finest – eagerly anticipating the full release of this, alongside Ramadanman’s Pitter, which is also on the new EP: Modeselektion Volume 1 (Monkey Town Records).

Mellowhype – Dead Deputy
Another Odd Future release, Mellowhype’s BLACKENEDWHITE is just as twisted and fucked up as their label-mates’ records. Left Brain’s experimental beats provide a perfect backdrop to Hodgy Beats’ Wiz Khalifa-esque flow. Get the whole thing here.

Becoming Real – Like Me (feat. Trim)

Like Me (feat. Trim) by Becoming Real
Off his new Spectre EP, just download it.

Cut Copy – Take Me Over
New single from the Australian trio’s forthcoming album, Zonoscope (release: Feb 2011). Singer Dan Whitford’s gentle croon flows perfectly over the breezy bassline and quirky synths. Download here.

Sagat – Fuk Dat (Raw mix)
Classic Sagat from 1994, download here.

Cubic Zirconia – Hoes Come Out At Night (Ikonika Remix)
This LP has been knocking about for a few months now, but it’s still a mainstay in my iPhone playlist. Cubic Zirconia’s first release on the venerable London label Night Slugs includes a brilliant remix from Hyperdub’s Ikonika. Tiombe Lockhart’s drity vocals ride well on Ikonika’s bass-drenched riddim. Download here.

Marvin Gaye – How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You) (Acapella)
Shuffle threw up this Motown classic, and sure enough I didn’t skip. Download here.
